❣ 송파로(Road), 예순번째 이야기 ❣
Today, after walking the Seongnaecheon Trail, I explored the second section of the Songpa Trail: the Jangjicheon Trail. If you haven’t checked out the Seongnaecheon Trail yet, feel free to take a quick peek at my previous post!
If the Seongnaecheon Trail feels like a peaceful streamside path, the Jangjicheon Trail feels more like a hidden forest trail nestled within the city.
The Jangjicheon Trail begins at Jangji Neighborhood Park. At the entrance, you’ll find the stamp box with Haha & Hoho cheerfully welcoming you! For the stamp tour, you can either scan the QR code or pick up a stamp book from the box. Since they’re planning to fully switch to the QR system, the stamp books will only be available while supplies last. If you choose the book, make sure to open it fully so the embossed stamp comes out nice and clear!
If you go with the QR code, there’s no English version yet―but don’t worry! Just enter your phone number twice, check the box to agree to share your information with the district office, and tap the ‘확인 (Confirm)’ button. Once you get your certificate, tap ‘인증서 저장 (Save Certificate)’ to save it!
The Jangjicheon Trail runs alongside the Seoul Trail, so if you don’t see any signs for this trail, just follow the Seoul Trail signs. They’ll help guide your way.
Some of the signs and information boards might be only in Korean, but don’t worry! You can use Google Lens to translate them instantly so you won’t miss a thing.😉 Along the way, you’ll also see tree name tags with brief descriptions. This trail is also steeped in local history and legends, like the story of General Im Gyeong-eop. You’ll pass by Jangsa Bawi (General Rock), a site honoring this brave and loyal hero who defended Joseon during the Qing invasion.
How would you feel walking along wooden steps and soft soil paths, surrounded by towering Metasequoia trees? You can enjoy a peaceful moment on this stunning 100-meter stretch, lined with ginkgo and pine trees. I’ll give you a little peek into what it’s like with a short video!
Even though it’s just the beginning of the trail, it already feels like stepping into a tranquil forest, far from the city’s hustle and bustle.😊
The air is filled with birdsong, like a warm welcome from nature. Thanks to the tree shade, it must feel nice and cool even in the summer.
There are several rest areas along the trail, so take your time and enjoy a bit of forest therapy.
Because the trail feels like a true forest walk, you might spot wildlife like raccoons or badgers. Just in case, there are location markers on trees and emergency call bells along the route. Also, remember to keep your pets on a leash―and of course, no smoking in the area!
You’ll easily find direction signs along the trail. If you’re ever uncertain, just follow the Tancheon Trail signs or the red arrows. They’ll keep you on track.
Along the way, you’ll pass by the Forest Playground for Preschoolers, Jangsa Bawi, the Songpa Geulmaru Library, outdoor fitness equipment, seasonal flowers in full bloom, and clean restrooms.
After passing the Songpa Geulmaru Library, you’ll reach a wide plaza near apartment buildings. Turn left to stay on the trail, cross the crosswalk, and take a right toward the Tancheon Trail. Soon, you’ll be walking with Jangjicheon flowing on your left.
Eventually, you’ll see a sign pointing toward Garden Five. If you’re feeling hungry or just want a break, this is the perfect spot! It offers everything from snacks to full meals, and even a bit of shopping, all in one convenient location.
How did you like the Jangjicheon Trail, with its forest-like atmosphere and charm that’s quite different from the Seongnaecheon Trail?
Next time, we’ll head over to the Tancheon Trail, where you can enjoy the untouched beauty of nature in an Ecological Conservation Area. Stay tuned!^^
